Thinking about the Other Mother...

Sometimes my friends and I joke that we need clones—one for work and one for home, perhaps? Wouldn't it be great, some days, to have someone else to help raise the kids—someone who wouldn't be bored by the endless play with Lego, who would miraculously make healthy meals they'll eat, who would come up with rainy day activities that are fun for the whole family? Of course on bad days at work I want the clone to sit at the computer while the "real me" goes off to play with the kids. It's all a matter of perspective.

Sort of a wife/Mary Poppins. Yes, put me down for one of those. Or, at least the wife part. I really need someone to do all this damn laundry (correctly) for me. I need a nap.

My mother had Alzheimer's and lived with us (me, my husband, and our three daughters), and she'd come in the kitchen and ask for Carol. My husband told her, "This is Carol, Mom--right here." She'd look at me, scowl and say, "Not her. I want the nice one!"

So maybe I've already been cloned--and I suspect the other me is now a waitress in Key West and goes by Flo. She spends her evenings free...drinking an orange juice and vodka as the sun sets.

Me, I'm here with the dishwasher and clothes washer running at the same time--in syncapated dys-harmony.

(I too, write--including YA, fiction, and anything my mind fixates on).
Nice to meet you.
